This post shows illustrations created by students in my illustration 1 and 2 class at Meramec Community College in St. louis Missouri during the Spring semester of 2012.

Assignment description: Create an illustration for a clothing store advertisement based on the copy that follows;

Some shoppers think that if you’ve seen one clothing store you’ve seen them all. That’s because most clothing stores,like sheep, run with the flock. They seem to think that whatever suits some people suit them all. At Jones and Smith’s we suit people that don’t run with a flock.

This would be a full color newspaper advertisement 10” wide x 13.5” high.

You may create this illustration in any technique you wish. If you are creating the illustration traditionally you should work larger than the final printed size.

I would like for you to design the placement of the illustration and type within the “ad” space,in addition to creating the color illustration.

Purpose of this assignment: For you to gain experience in thinking conceptually.

Additional comments : Draw lots of thumbnails .

    I think Samantha has the right idea. A little help in spelling “one” and she made a statement both visually and copy wise. Obviously had a good teacher!
