The above illustration was created for Adventure magazine , a devotional and leisure-reading guide published by the Baptist Sunday School Board, located in Nashville ,TN. This was one of three illustrations that appeared in a story called “Imported Fun”.Designer was John Cochran and the publication date was the week of March 16,1997.
This was a small magazine ,5.25″ x 8.25″ and was printed on a soft absorbent paper. My illustrations were created in pencil and transparent color, which reproduced well on this stock. I hired models to pose or used family or neighbors as models. I would create the drawing on tracing paper than copy it on bond paper on a copy machine. The copy was glued on poster board and color was applied with a sable brush using liquid acrylic paint. The original art was 6″ x8.5″.Below is a scan from the printed magazine.
The story talks about the young girl drawing an ant colony and I placed the girl on her drawing for the cover illustration.
