Journey 2

This is a recent image that I have created for my Inner Space series of digital and traditional paintings that relate to themes of space, time, and inner thoughts. I will continue to work on this image until there is nothing to add and additional work will take away from the image

During the 2012 presidential primary campaigns, I began taking photos of my HD tv screen of various politicians during televised debates, which I used to create digital paintings. This was just for personal use and not to be used commercially. I recently came across the folder in my computer that contained some of these digital portraits, and I decided to share this technique. I haven’t worked in this way for several years.

New York City Bridge by John Foster Dyess

New York City Bridge by John Foster Dyess

My wife Carolyn and I visited New York City during May of 2010 to participate in a licensing show and displayed our illustrations and designs in a booth.
During this visit I took random photographs of  people on the streets, buildings and signage.  I have created digital and traditional paintings during the last four years using these photos as reference.I am going to show the paintings created from these photos on this blog for a few days. They are shown in the chronological order of the reference photographs. Not all of the photographs became paintings.

I’ve always have had a visual split personality when I create my art. One personality is as an illustrator creating realistic images and the other is my joy in creating abstract ,graphic images. To separate the two visual personalities I have begun to sign my illustrations John Foster Dyess and my abstract images JoDye. These images were created on June 4,2012.

scene from a movie

I had a medical procedure called Catheter Ablation Monday and decided while I’m recuperating I would play at the computer and create some new digital art. I started by recording a movie  yesterday than I took TV screen photos with my digital camera of scenes that interested me visually. I up-loaded a few of my photos from the movie and painted over the photos in photoshop. I don’t know if doing this is covered under the Fair Use Doctrine so I will not name the movie. Anyway I’m having fun with this technigue.
